RE/MAX International began quite modestly in 1973 by co-founder Dave Liniger. The name was shortened from "Real Estate Maximums" to reflect the revolutionary strategy Liniger was trying to evolve.
At the time, the philosophy of the industry was to hire enough noodles and hope one would stick, so to speak. Rather than hire anyone with a real estate license, Linger designed the entire RE/MAX strategy to hire the best and most productive agents in the industry. His philosophy was to hire "Outstanding Agents" to achieve "Outstanding Results," which even became RE/MAX's tagline.
Over thirty years later and more than 120,000 agents, RE/MAX is one of the strongest real estate networks in 63 countries. The hot air balloon, incorporated in 1978, is one of the most recognized logos in the world. Not only that, it is an umbrella of camaraderie between all agents throughout the entire network.
